Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004

Introduction

EA's Tiger Woods franchise makes it's way onto the Mobile Phone handheld market, it's not all bad, but it's not all good either

Gameplay

Well, it's a golf game! The controls are very simple in principal, but getting used to them takes quite a bit of time. I prefer the "older" style of EAs swing meters, you could actually get some sort of accuracy in the shots, but this system that is used seems a bit "hit and miss" if can excuse the pun. However, while the game is simple, it has a lot of frustrated replayability and you keep coming back for more...

Graphics

The graphics are incredibly basic. When in the over the shoulder view, the course is built of roughly overlaping sprites of trees and quite a poorly rendered 3D landscape. When you take your shot it changes to a 2D overhead view which is HIGHLY dissapointing as we know the gage can cope with much higher demands in the graphics department. The final putt is a simple 2D affair again - though they have strived to make it look like 3D with some sprite scaling on the ball... overall the graphics are pretty poor

Sound

The sound in the game is dissapointing, very few sounds (there were more sounds on the Game Gear golf game I used to have!), but the ones that are there are adequate

Lastability

Even after all the negatives, this game will keep you coming back for more, Multiplayer and online modes are a good way of keeping the game going too, the challenge mode is a nice touch and can be really frustrating at times too

Conclusion

This is the only Golf game currently available for the gage, while it's not really pretty, it IS thankfully playable. I feel it's a worthy game to have in your collection as it does make a change to have a game that doesn't require the reflexes of a cat to play!
